REFLEXOLOGY

What is reflexology?

Reflexology is the technique of applying gentle pressure to the reflexes of the foot or hands in order to bring about a state of deep relaxation, to simulate the body's own healing processes and help the person to return to a state of balance and well being.   It is based on the concept of there being a map of the organs and systems of body on the feet or hands and that by stimulating these reflexes there is a corresponding affect on all these areas.

History of reflexology

Reflexology is an ancient therapy which can be traced back to Egypt over 3500 years ago. Pictures have been found from this period in the tomb of the Physician Ankamhor showing a reflexology treatment being carried out.   There is also evidence that the Chinese and North American Indians also practiced a form of reflexology.

Modern reflexology and the first Western recorded form dates back to 1913 when it was introduced by Dr William Fitzgerald an ENT surgeon.   Eunice Ingham further developed this theory in the 1930's into what is now recognised a reflexology.   She noted that tension or congestion in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body.

Precision Reflexology

Precision reflexology is an additional tool for the Therapist and works by using a light touch 'linking' technique over 2 or 3 reflex points in order to balance the energies and enable healing to progress more efficiently.

The Treatment

For your first treatment we will have a preliminary talk and I will take some details concerning your general health and emotional needs.   There is no need to undress, merely to remove your footwear.   The treatment can take place with you either seated or prone on a couch.  

Then using my hands only I will apply gentle pressure to reflex points over the feet in order to stimulate and bring about a balance within the body to encourage it to heal and create a sense of well being that leads to optimum health,

As a professionally trained reflexologist I will be able to detect any blockage's denoting congestion or imbalance in specific areas and will work to release the energy enabling it to flow freely.   There may be discomfort felt in some places but this is fleeting and is merely an indication of congestion or imbalance in a corresponding part of the body.   for the most part the sensation is pleasant and relaxing.
